Using Silicone Molds Successfully
Silicone molds are popular for resin crafts—here’s how to get the best results:
Mold Prep:
-
Clean with isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry.
-
Apply mold release for longer mold life and easier demolding.
Preventing Dull Backs:
-
Use high-gloss molds or coat the surface with a clear resin layer post-demold.
Timing Demold:
-
Demold after full cure time for best results—resin too soft may warp.
Storage Tips:
-
Store molds flat and away from sunlight.
-
Clean after each use to prevent buildup.
Tips:
-
Avoid torching in the mold—it can damage the silicone.
-
Use a toothpick or stirring stick to pop microbubbles in corners.
