EpoxyPro EP8540 Core Hole Sealing & Protection Epoxy

EpoxyPro EP8540 is a white, mineral-filled, two-component epoxy system designed for coating, sealing and protecting the internal concrete surfaces of core-drilled holes prior to the installation of modular mechanical pipe seals.

EP8540 fills and smooths pores, blowholes, scoring and minor surface irregularities in concrete, creating a sound, uniform and non-porous sealing surface. The cured epoxy also protects exposed concrete within the core hole from moisture and environmental exposure.

EP8540 is designed as a core-hole surface preparation and protection coating. The modular mechanical seal provides the pipe-to-wall sealing function.

Surface Preparation

Concrete surfaces must be structurally sound, clean and free from loose concrete, laitance, drilling slurry, dust, oil, grease and other contaminants that may interfere with adhesion.

Remove all drilling residue from the core hole. Smooth or polished concrete should be mechanically abraded where necessary to provide a suitable bonding surface.

Remove all dust and loose material thoroughly before application.

The prepared surface should provide a sound substrate to which EP8540 can achieve good adhesion.

Mixing

Measure 4 parts Part A to 1 part Part B by volume.

Mix thoroughly, ensuring material from the sides and bottom of the mixing container is incorporated. Continue mixing until a uniform colour and consistency is achieved.

Avoid excessive mixing that may introduce unnecessary air into the product.

Only mix an amount that can be applied within the 60–80 minute pot life at 25°C.

Application

Apply mixed EP8540 by brush or roller to the internal concrete surface of the prepared core hole.

Work the epoxy thoroughly into pores, blowholes, scoring and minor surface imperfections.

Ensure the complete area where the modular mechanical seal will contact the core-hole wall is coated to produce a continuous, smooth and uniform sealing surface.

Additional coats may be applied where required to correct surface irregularities or achieve complete coverage.

Allow EP8540 to cure sufficiently before installing and tightening the modular mechanical seal.

Modular Seal Installation

Once EP8540 has sufficiently cured, the modular mechanical seal can be installed in accordance with the seal manufacturer's installation instructions.

The pipe, cable or conduit should be correctly centred and adequately supported.

The modular mechanical seal performs the actual sealing function between the penetration and the core-hole surface. EP8540 provides the prepared, protected and smooth concrete surface against which the mechanical seal operates.

LINK-SEAL installation instructions recommend coating core holes with epoxy resin to create a suitable sealing surface, protect the concrete and smooth shrinkage holes and scoring.

Curing

Cure time is dependent on ambient and substrate temperature.

Lower temperatures will extend working and curing times, while higher temperatures will reduce them.

Protect the freshly applied coating from contamination, water, movement and damage during cure.

Do not install or torque the mechanical seal until EP8540 has developed sufficient cure for the installation conditions.

Limitations

EP8540 is designed as a core-hole surface preparation, sealing and protection epoxy.

It is not intended to replace the modular mechanical seal or act as a pipe support or fixed point.

The pipe or penetration must be adequately supported independently of the modular seal.

Suitability of the complete penetration sealing system, including core-hole dimensions, pipe support, seal sizing and installation requirements, should be confirmed for the specific application.

Storage

Store in original, tightly closed containers in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.

Protect from contamination and moisture during storage.

Safety

Use appropriate personal protective equipment when handling and applying EP8540, including protective gloves, safety glasses and suitable protective clothing.

Refer to the current EpoxyPro EP8540 Safety Data Sheet for detailed handling, first aid, storage and disposal information.

Important Technical Note

The values listed above are typical product information and should not be considered individual batch specifications. Application conditions, substrate condition, temperature and installation requirements can influence final performance.

Users should confirm the suitability of EP8540 and the complete penetration sealing system for the intended application before use.
